The intersection of mental health and women's wellbeing
The unique mental health challenges women face, and the spaces, practices and communities that help us heal.

Mental health is a critical aspect of overall wellbeing, yet it is often overshadowed by physical health discussions. Women face unique mental health challenges, influenced by biological, social, and cultural factors. Understanding these complexities is essential for fostering resilience and promoting mental wellbeing.
Research indicates that women are more likely than men to experience certain mental health challenges, such as anxiety and depression. Hormonal fluctuations, particularly during puberty, menstruation, pregnancy, and menopause, can significantly impact mood and emotional regulation. Societal pressures and expectations often lead women to prioritise others' needs over their own, contributing to feelings of overwhelm, guilt, and inadequacy.
The stigma surrounding mental health can also deter women from seeking help. Many feel isolated in their struggles, believing they should handle their emotions alone. This silence can deepen shame and anxiety, which is why creating safe environments where women feel free to express their experiences is so vital.
On retreat, women practise yoga, sit in circle, share meals. Research shows yoga can ease symptoms of anxiety and depression, bringing a sense of calm and clarity. The body settles. So does the conversation.
“Acknowledging the unique mental health challenges faced by women is the first step toward creating effective support systems, and a healthier future together.”
