Yoga is an ancient practice from India. How did it make its way into modern studios, and how do we honour its origins while practising today?

Yoga has been around for thousands of years, and for good reason. It was initially developed as a means to achieve spiritual enlightenment and physical wellbeing, and has since evolved into a popular form of movement and stress relief worldwide.

But why is yoga becoming more and more popular in the 21st century?

First, yoga is accessible to everyone. Whether you're a seasoned yogi or just starting out, there's a style that will work for you. From gentle restorative practices to more challenging Ashtanga Vinyasa classes, there's something for every body.

Beyond its physical benefits, yoga has an ocean of spiritual depth. It encourages mindfulness and helps individuals connect with their inner selves, leading to a sense of inner peace, clarity and purpose.

Most days don't leave room to slow down. Yoga makes that room, a space to focus on the present moment and let go of stress and tension. It is a practice for body, mind and breath.

As yoga becomes more mainstream, it's important to honour its roots. Yoga originated in India, and recognising its cultural origins ensures it remains a meaningful and respectful practice for generations to come.

We must remember the essence of yoga, seeing unity in diversity, and remembering that we are more than just our body and mind.
