Returning to yourself in your own home
When we think of home, we all picture something different. Some imagine their cosy couch with a fluffy blanket and a fireplace, others a small campervan, or a busy house full of family members. Whatever it looks like, most of us are looking for the same thing. A calm place where we can be ourselves and put down the roles we carry through the day.
But home doesn’t always feel that way.
It can often come with a lot of responsibilities like cleaning dirty dishes after the family dinner, week old laundry which needs to be finally washed or family members needing your attention. You can find yourself in the middle of a constant noise when all you need is a moment of quiet.
Throughout our lives, we’re taught how to take care of our bodies, we’ve been told we should move regularly, eat well, sleep enough. But no one really teaches us how to make our own space feel supportive to live in. And it matters more than we think.
We always think the change has to be significant to count, but creating a sense of ease at home doesn’t require big changes. It starts with small, consistent moments. It can be simple as sitting down for five minutes before bed without a screen and listening to your favourite playlist, reading 10 pages a night of the book that you’ve been wanting to read for months, writing a few lines about something that felt good that day or making yourself a herbal tea and actually enjoying a moment of stillness when you're drinking it.
These small rituals aren’t dramatic shifts in your day, but they slowly shape how your home feels. And more importantly, how you feel within it. They’re what make the difference between simply living in a space, and actually feeling at home.
