The power of finally choosing yourself
As women, we naturally tend to take care of everyone else first. Whether it’s family, work, relationships, or our daily responsibilities, we often put our own needs aside without even realising it. At first, it may feel normal to us and may even make us feel happy and fulfilled. However, over time, it can become overwhelming and make us feel disconnected and unsure of what we want or who we truly are.
Even though it sometimes feels like a big deal, choosing yourself is not about making big, dramatic changes. It often begins with small, intentional decisions, like saying no to plans when you need rest. It could also be signing up for that yoga or Pilates class you’ve been thinking about for months but never prioritised. It might be taking a quiet walk alone, without distractions, or finally booking time away just for yourself.
These moments can feel uncomfortable at first. They can come with feelings of guilt, doubt, or uncertainty, but that doesn’t mean it’s wrong for you. It often means you are doing something different or new, and most importantly, you are doing it for yourself.
When you start choosing yourself, even in small ways, something begins to shift. You may feel more present and more connected to who you are, not just who you’ve been for others. You may find yourself becoming more confident about what you want by setting boundaries and standing up for yourself. You may feel more mentally and physically ready by prioritising your exercise and movement. Whatever makes you feel whole and complete counts, and choosing yourself is not selfish. It is a way of creating a life that feels balanced and truly yours. And that’s what matters the most.
